Botox® Denver

Frown lines, crow’s feet, laugh lines, fine lines. These facial lines we see in the mirror are the result of a life well-lived. We laugh, we cry, we grimace, we concentrate -- and we develop lines. We fear they make us look older than we feel.

Thankfully, in today’s world, we have a solution. Botox treatments provided by Natural Skincare Clinic in Denver will smooth wrinkles and lines -- restoring your youthful appearance. If you want to look younger without surgery, Botox might be the answer for you!

WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox is a very safe, FDA-approved treatment -- minimally invasive, which means no surgery, and no downtime. It’s delivered via a simple injection, and the appointment takes just 10 minutes.

You might come in on your lunch or coffee break for a quick treatment at Natural Skincare Clinic in Denver. One of our well-trained and experienced physician assistants will administer it expertly -- a fine-needle injection of Botox.

We can use Botox to treat lines around your eyes -- between eyebrows -- forehead and mouth lines. Botox can also help medical conditions that involve neuromuscular symptoms, including neck spasms and migraine headaches. Keep reading to learn more!

BENEFITS OF BOTOX TREATMENTS

What exactly is Botox? Botox is the brand name for a toxin made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Nearly two decades ago, researchers discovered that this toxin blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles, so the injected muscle can’t contract.

Since then, thousands of people have benefited from Botox used to treat facial lines and reduce signs of aging. As additional uses for Botox have emerged, many more people have found relief from specific medical conditions.

  • Reduces The Appearance Of Facial Wrinkles
  • Botox injections are most often used on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around the eye), mouth and frown lines -- working to smooth facial skin. Within a few days, you’ll see a noticeable difference in the mirror.

Over the next week, you will continue to see lines relax. The total effect lasts about six months, and will need to be repeated to continue the effects. Also, Botox can be used to prevent new lines from emerging.

Just one thing -- there are limitations, as Botox can’t help wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity. But the results that can be accomplished are certainly rewarding!

  • Treats Chronic Migraines & Other Chronic Health Conditions
  • Because Botox works with muscles and nerve signals, injections can help treat multiple medical conditions including migraines, muscle spasms, excessive sweating, and amblyopia (lazy eye).

  • Prevents Unnecessary Muscle Use
  • Botox works by blocking nerve signals to muscles. The muscles become temporarily “frozen” which prevents unnecessary or uncontrollable muscle contractions. That’s how Botox relaxes facial lines -- and how it works to treat multiple muscle conditions elsewhere in the body.

CONDITIONS THAT BOTOX INJECTIONS CAN ADDRESS

    MIGRAINES

Botox was approved by the FDA in 2010 for migraine treatment. Researchers believe that when Botox is injected into the muscles around the face, head and neck, the nerves are affected -- and interfere with pain-associated neurotransmission.

It can take several weeks (and multiple treatments) before you experience relief from migraines. Some patients can discontinue injections without frequent migraines returning. Others will require regular treatments to keep migraines under control.

    NECK SPASMS OR CERVICAL DYSTONIA

Botox treatments can help relieve involuntary neck spasms, also known as cervical dystonia. These spasms can be very painful, causing abnormal head and neck postures and movements. When this happens, two sets of muscles are simultaneously contracting.

Botox has been effective in blocking muscles causing neck spasms, providing pain relief and improvements in head and neck positions. Treatment will be required every 12 weeks.

    EXCESSIVE SWEATING OR HYPERHIDROSIS

With this condition, you sweat excessively even when you’re not exerting yourself or the temperature isn't hot. While this condition may be caused by a medical disorder, in some cases it occurs without any known cause. Botox has been FDA-approved to treat excessive sweating.

    LAZY EYE OR AMBLYOPIA

This condition occurs when a young child has crossed eyes (or strabismus) -- and the eyes do not align together. The nerve connections between the brain and the eye may not develop, leading to a permanent condition called lazy eye --- which can affect vision.

Botox therapy for strabismus is a way to correct this problem by relaxing the eye muscles, reducing eye misalignment.

    SKIN CONDITIONS

Wrinkles, acne, psoriasis and eczema are caused by Inflammation and other skin disruptions involving muscles -- and all respond to Botox.

    Wrinkles

Wrinkles, creases and fine lines on the face respond well to Botox -- resulting in smoother skin. Botox temporarily relaxes and paralyzes muscles, softening and smoothing skin. Botox can also reverse damage from UV rays that damage skin elasticity.

    Acne

A Botox injection causes paralysis of a muscle in the hair and oil gland. This prevents oil secretions that cause acne. Botox works by preventing the release of an inflammatory substance known as substance P, essentially acting as an anti-inflammatory.

    Psoriasis

Psoriasis and eczema are two chronic skin conditions that result in rough, red, and scaly patches developing on various parts of the body. Patients getting Botox injections experience an improvement in the appearance of psoriatic plaques, and Botox also reduces itchiness in eczema sufferers.

    OUR BOTOX TREATMENT PROCESS

Botox can help Denver patients significantly reduce the appearance of facial lines and prevent new lines. Our specialists at Natural Skincare Clinic offer the following guidelines to help you benefit the most from your treatment -- and avoid complications.

    PREPARING FOR BOTOX

Do not drink wine for one week before your appointment.
To reduce side effects like facial bruising, it’s critical to avoid wine for seven days before your treatment. Red wine is especially a concern, and it can increase your chances of bruising after Botox treatment.

Don’t take anti-inflammatory medications during the week before Botox.
Within 4 to 5 days after Botox treatment, you should enjoy the results -- smoother skin, subtler facial lines, and overall younger-looking skin.

To prevent bruising or discoloration, we recommend avoiding anti-inflammatory medications for 7 days before Botox treatment. If these medications are medically necessary, please let us know in your initial consultation; we can plan your treatment with that in mind.

    Avoid foods with garlic.
While this may seem unusual, trust us. Garlic can increase your risk of bruising after Botox treatment -- so we advise not eating food with garlic for 7 days before your treatment.

    Start using Anica.
Anica is a natural herb that is effective in minimizing bruising after Botox treatment. Start taking Arnica supplements 7 days before Botox treatment.

    Before the procedure.
While most patients don’t feel discomfort during the Botox injections, some ask to have their skin numbed. This is especially true if you’ve had excessive sweating on your hands or feet.

At Natural Skincare Clinic, our specialist will offer various methods to numb the area, such as topical anesthesia, ice and vibration anesthesia -- using massage to reduce discomfort.

    During the procedure.
Botox injections are performed in a suite in our Clinic. Your specialist will use a thin needle to inject tiny amounts of Botox into your skin or muscles. You will have multiple injections, depending on the extent of the treatment area. The entire procedure for facial treatments takes less than 10 minutes.

HOW EFFECTIVE ARE OUR BOTOX TREATMENTS?

Botox has been popular for two decades for just one reason -- it works! You’ll see the results develop slowly after each treatment.

Botox injections usually begin working within 3 days after treatment. Depending on the problem being treated, the effect may last 5 months or longer. To maintain the effect, you'll need regular follow-up injections.

Botox is especially effective with the reduction of so-called "dynamic wrinkles" (wrinkles that are only present when muscles contract). This includes wrinkles around the mouth and cheeks (when we smile) and corner of eyes ( when we squint, frown, and grimace).

    DOWNTIME AND RECOVERY

With Botox injections, there’s no visible sign of treatment and no downtime. You will leave the Natural Skincare Clinic knowing that your treatment is slowly transforming your life. If you’ve had facial treatments, you can expect smoother skin and less evidence of aging -- a new and revitalized you!

However, it’s critical to take good care of your skin during recovery.

For the next 24 hours, it’s important that you don’t rub or massage the treated area. This may prevent Botox from working effectively. There are just a few more minor limitations during that first day.

    Skip your workout.
Of course exercise is the key to staying healthy and fit, and you can workout before your Botox appointment. But postpone it for at least one day afterward -- as there is risk of inflammation, because blood pressure increases during exercise.

    Don’t use makeup.
Makeup can interact with the Botox injection site, increasing risk of infection -- including redness, swelling, and discomfort. It’s best to avoid makeup before your treatment and one day after treatment.

    Cleanse skin gently.
You certainly want to keep your skin healthy and glowing. But avoid any aggressive facial cleansers before and after your Botox treatment. Otherwise, you risk an infection.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED FOR THE TREATMENT?

Most people are able to have Botox treatments, and are very happy with the results. However, some people are not able to have Botox injections if they currently or have experienced certain medical conditions.

Also, there is an age limit. Botox has been approved by the FDA for patients over age 18 for medical and cosmetic conditions. Young patients are increasingly seeking out Botox treatments to prevent wrinkles before they start.

    PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY HEALTHY

If you are in poor general health, if your skin is very thick -- or if you have existing muscle weakness in the proposed injection site -- you may not be a good candidate for Botox.

If you have sensitive skin, you may experience an allergic reaction at the injection site. If you might have allergic reactions to the ingredients used in Botox -- or are currently taking aminoglycoside antibiotics -- you should not get Botox treatments. If you also have any infections at the proposed injection site, you should inform your doctor.

    Mental Health and Botox
Your mental health is an important factor in getting Botox treatments. It’s critical that you have reasonable expectations of Botox -- as this treatment is not going to create a permanent, surgical result. Effective results will require treatment every three to four months. Interestingly, Botox has been reported to help relieve depression and anxiety, and can improve confidence and general happiness. Your everyday life may be a bit easier, with fewer insecurities about your facial skin or medical condition. You may also feel better in social situations -- more confident about yourself.

    MIGRAINE FREQUENCY

Botox treatments for migraines are approved for select people age 18 and older who experience 15 or more migraine days per month. Doctors typically prescribe medications and lifestyle changes before advising Botox. If your doctor determines that your chronic migraines might benefit from Botox, you might be a candidate for treatment.

    NO CHRONIC NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASE

Tell your doctor about medical conditions involving muscle and nerve conditions, as you may not be qualified to get certain Botox injections.

    NOT CURRENTLY PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING

If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, you cannot have Botox treatments. It is not known if Botox can harm your unborn baby. Also, if you are breastfeeding or plan to, you cannot have Botox as it passes into breast milk.
